{"id":64354,"date":"2022-05-07T15:43:25","date_gmt":"2022-05-07T14:43:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/we-didnt-list-ipob-as-terrorist-group-uk-makes-clarification"},"modified":"2022-05-07T16:51:35","modified_gmt":"2022-05-07T15:51:35","slug":"we-didnt-list-ipob-as-terrorist-group-uk-makes-clarification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/we-didnt-list-ipob-as-terrorist-group-uk-makes-clarification","title":{"rendered":"We didn\u2019t list IPOB as terrorist group \u2013 UK makes clarification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The United Kingdom (UK) has clarified that it did not label the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after it emerged that the UK sought to reject IPOB members who have committed human rights abuses from its asylum program.<\/p>\n<p>A statement signed by Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesperson, had disclosed that \u201cNigeria welcomes the decision by the United Kingdom to proscribe the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the British High Commission in Abuja, in a statement issued on Friday night, said this wasn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n<p>The statement read in part, \u201cWe are aware of inaccurate reporting circulating in the media and online that the UK Government has added the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the UK\u2019s list of terrorist groups or organisations banned under UK law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese reports are untrue.
