Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Dutch coach Fred Rutten has revealed he rejected an offer to work as Erik ten Hag\u2019s assistant at Manchester United.<\/p>\n

Newly appointed Manchester United boss, Erik Ten Hag will join the Old Trafford landlords at the end of the season and is planning to bring Mitchell van der Gaag, his assistant at Ajax.<\/p>\n

But Rutten, who has managed PSV, Feyenoord FC Twente, Schalke and Anderlecht, has also held talks with the Ajax boss about the prospect of joining him at United to help out.<\/p>\n

However, Ruben 59, has decided to remain in the Netherlands and has agreed to be part of Ruud van Nistelrooy\u2019s backroom team at PSV.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a family, I have grandchildren. I want to see them every now and then,\u201d Rutten told ESPN.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Manchester United, you get on a train and you can\u2019t get off it. I want to feel comfortable in something you step into. That is the case with PSV.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice when you have grandchildren, who you see every now and then and who can play ball with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interim manager, Ralf Rangnick is playing his last games for Manchester United with his six-month contract set to expire next month.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils are currently finding life difficult with hopes of playing in the Champions League next season dashed. The multiple league winners have crashed out of the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.<\/p>\n

Ralf Rangnick\u2019s side is currently 6th in the Premier League table and will now play to win their remaining games to stand any chance of qualifying for the Europa League.<\/p>\n

Erik ten Hag is tasked with the responsibility of bringing the Old Trafford outfit to its glory days and will be backed by the club\u2019s hierarchy to overhaul the team. Apart from bringing along his own assistants, the Dutchman will also have the say on players he wants at the Theatre of Dreams.<\/p>\n
