Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>There is tension in Takum local government council of Taraba State over the alleged arrest and detention of the council chairman, Shiban Tikari, by the army<\/p>\n

This is coming barely a few days after six soldiers were killed in an ambush by bandits suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram group.<\/p>\n

The people who on Saturday vowed not to go to bed pending when the council boss is set free, called on the Chief of Army Staff to order the immediate release of Tikari from army detention.<\/p>\n

Led by the chairman of Taraba Civil Service Commission, Elder John Mamman urged the army for his immediate release.<\/p>\n

They asked why the council boss has been held incommunicado since the attack which led to the deaths of the soldiers and the missing of the Commanding Officer of the 93 Battalion,<\/p>\n

The chairman in question, as gathered by Daily Post, has been playing guest to the soldiers for over four days without being allowed to communicate with his family members and the people of the council at large.<\/p>\n

The council chairman, according to Mamman \u201cwas arrested and detained four days ago by the Nigerian Army at 93 Battalion Adda Barrack Takum.\u201d<\/p>\n

Expressing sadness over the arrest of the chairman, they affirmed that \u201ceven if the chairman has killed someone, he has the right to be held.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stressing that \u201cWe are calling on the Chief of Army Staff to as a matter of urgency order the release of our chairman from the army detention, claiming it unlawful to detain an executive council chairman without telling his people his offences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Findings revealed that the council boss was arrested alongside other chiefs of some major tribes in the council.<\/p>\n
