Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Mr Olusegun Onilude, on Thursday, condemned the recent clashes and killings by cult groups in Badagry.<\/p>\n

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on May 17 a clash between rival cult groups in Adaripon Ipage Compound, Badagry, Lagos State, had led to the death of a 36-year-old man.<\/p>\n

Reacting, a statement by his Chief of Staff, Mr Sewedo Samuel, said Onilude implored security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to work in synergy to nip cultism in the bud.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is unfortunate what the country is turning to. I am sure you will agree with me that insecurity is not solely a Badagry problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cBadagry is a community known for peace and I want to appeal to parents and guardians to warn their wards to desist from cultism,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Onilude commended the efforts of security agencies in maintaining law and order.<\/p>\n

He urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively to maintain law, peace and order in the council.<\/p>\n

The Chairman said the purpose of the meeting was to deliberate and intensify collaborative efforts to forestall the breakdown of law and order in Badagry, especially during and after the primaries of various political parties.<\/p>\n

He said the meeting was also to deliberate on the security of lives and property of residents of Badagry and its environs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meeting was attended by traditional rulers, representatives of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air force, Department of State Security, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).<\/p>\n

\u201cOthers are officials from Correctional Centre, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
