{"id":661,"date":"2017-12-19T14:03:06","date_gmt":"2017-12-19T14:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=661"},"modified":"2020-02-13T12:16:46","modified_gmt":"2020-02-13T12:16:46","slug":"president-buhari-extends-tenure-military-chiefs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/homepage-english\/president-buhari-extends-tenure-military-chiefs","title":{"rendered":"President Buhari extends tenure of military chiefs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the tenure of the military chiefs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The military chiefs were appointed in 2015, but their appointment has been renewed twice.<\/p>\n<p>Colonel Tukur Gusau, public relations officer to the minister of defence, said their appointment was renewed owing to the need to sustain the fight against insurgency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President and Commander in chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, having carefully reviewed the on-going military operations across the nation and the efforts of the chief of defence staff and the service chiefs in the counter insurgency operations in the north-east coupled with the security situation of the Niger Delta region, has graciously approved the extension of tenure of service of\u00a0 General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai Chief of Army Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-EteIkwe Ibas, the Chief of Naval staff and Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, the Chief of Air staff,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis extension is pursuant of the powers conferred on the President and Commander in chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by section 218 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and section 09.06 of the Harmonised Terms and Conditions for Service for officers (2012) Revised.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the tenure of the military chiefs.
