Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>There are indications that a subtle crisis is brewing within the rank and file of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as some officers drafted to provide security during the recent Anambra gubernatorial are protesting non-payment of their allowances, eight months after the exercise.<\/p>\n

The aggrieved officers were drafted from the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja to the South East state.<\/p>\n

Sources within the Corps told DAILY POST that its leadership has withheld the funds meant for officers accommodation, feeding and other sundry allowances.<\/p>\n

They alleged that the affected officers were compelled to pay for hotel accommodations and take care of other concerns from their personal funds.<\/p>\n

Most of the affected officers are those from the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) and the rank and file below it, while Commandants were given the necessary allowances to take care of accommodation, feeding, GSM communication, among others.<\/p>\n

The source disclosed, \u201cThere was no accommodation provided for us. We were taken from Abuja to Ekiti State without any plan for our accommodation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStranded officers had to cough out money from their pockets to pay for hotels. It was only the very Senior officers that were lodged in hotels.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEven the allowances they promised to pay, till date we have not seen anything. It is the same thing that they did during the governorship election in Anambra State. When you complain, they tell you to wait for your turn when you become Oga.\u201d<\/p>\n

When contacted, NSCDC PRO, Sola Odumosu, said that the Corps was yet to receive money for the Ekiti elections from the federal government.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I speak with you, the federal government of Nigeria is yet to give the Corps a penny from the Accountant General\u2019s Office. Rather than approach my office or their leader, they\u2019ll prefer to embarrass their services on the pages of newspapers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how that helps them. There\u2019s no way that the Corps will be given money to disburse to personnel for election duties, and then, the leadership of the Corps will put that money in their pocket.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not possible. Not at this age. Not this time,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Odumosu equally blamed the protesting officers for insensitivity and impatience, insisting that \u201ceven the money used to prosecute that election was borrowed by the leadership of this Corps.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, all allowances regarding the 2021 Anambra gubernatorial elections have been paid, adding that \u201cthere\u2019s no way the Corps will divert funds meant for officers allowances. The Osun State election is around the corner. How can you do that and ask them to go monitor the Osun elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

The blame game is coming on the heels of recent allegations of vote buying in the Ekiti governorship election, where security agents and party agents are believed to have colluded during the exercise.<\/p>\n

Recall that owing to insinuations of the police being overwhelmed, other security agencies, including the NSCDC officials are drafted to provide security during electioneering exercises.<\/p>\n
