Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has called on the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to provide more centres for the Permanent Voters Card, PVC, registration.<\/p>\n

President-General of the coalition, Goodluck Ibem who said he visited some centres on Wednesday, pointed out that there need to be at least 100 computers in each registration centre.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Ibem called on the electoral body to extend the exercise to the various voting units in the South-East to alleviate some difficulties being faced by those eager to register.<\/p>\n

The statement reads in part, \u201cSince the voters registration exercise commerced for the 2023 general elections, Local Government INEC offices have only been the only registration point for the exercise which has made it very difficult and a herculean task for so many Nigerians in the South East to register for their Permanent Voters Card, PVCs.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo many Nigerians coming out to the INEC offices are finding it difficult due to the large number of people that come out on a daily basis to register.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people have to pay a high cost of transport fare to get to the INEC office for over a month without being able to register for the PVC.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs at the time we visited some of the centers, the INEC office has only 2 computers for the registration, meanwhile one computer can register only 60 persons per day when we have over 700 persons on ground for the registration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe INEC chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu needs to come down to South East to see for himself the suffering people go through to register for their PVCs due to insufficient number of computers and equipments for the registration exercise coupled with the long distance so many people have to trek or transport themselves in other to get to the INEC office where the registration exercise is been done\u201d.<\/p>\n
