{"id":6887,"date":"2019-03-20T17:07:49","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T17:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=6887"},"modified":"2019-03-20T17:07:49","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T17:07:49","slug":"thunder-kills-three-in-delta-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/thunder-kills-three-in-delta-community","title":{"rendered":"Thunder kills three in Delta community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three persons were reportedly struck to death by thunder on Tuesday in Osieta Avenue, a suburb of Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South council area of Delta state.<\/p>\n<p>The victims; Ogbenemeruo Tabeta, Mathew Utuama and one unnamed auto-mechanic, were reportedly struck to death during a heavy downpour, which affected the Jeremi and Udu areas on Tuesday while fixing a broken down sand tipper truck.<\/p>\n<p>The Nation gathered that one of the deceased; Tabeta, in whose compound the incident happened, had invited the auto-mechanic from Onitsha to come and help him resuscitate his vehicle that had been out of use.<\/p>\n<p>However, the host, one of his friends who was on the scene while the repairs were going on, as well as the guest mechanic, were all struck dead by a mysterious thunder.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_ad jeg_ad_article jnews_content_inline_2_ads  \">\n<div class=\"ads-wrapper align-center \">\n<div class=\"ads_code\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Narrating the incident to The Nation in Warri Wednesday evening, one of the neighbours of Tabeta, who spoke under conditions of anonymity, said the development had caused sadness round the whole of Jeremi area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom what I gathered, one of the deceased; Ogbenemeruo Tabeta, was a sand tipper and he was the one who invited a mechanic from Onitsha, the third guy whose name was not known, to come fix his tipper that had been grounded by a mechanical fault.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt started raining yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) at about 2pm to 3pm and I think while it was raining the guy was on with the work and that was when a thunderstorm struck and killed the three of them\u201d, the community source said.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to get the spokesman of the Delta state police command, Mr Chuks Orisewezie (ASP), to confirm the development was unsuccessful as he did not answer calls put across to him as at the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n<p>However, a police source at the Jeremi Police Station, who also spoke under anonymous conditions, as he is not authorized to speak to the media, confirmed the development, adding that the deceased had been deposited at the morgue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe matter was incidented here at the police station and upon further investigation, it was discovered that the victims were all killed by lightning which struck while it was raining\u201d, the police source revealed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"addtoany_share_save_container addtoany_content addtoany_content_bottom\">\n<div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 addtoany_list\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three persons were reportedly struck to death by thunder on Tuesday in Osieta Avenue, a suburb of Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South council area of Delta state.
