Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The bad state of the road leading to Gembu, the administrative headquarters of Sardauna local government council in<\/p>\n

Mambilla Plateau, Taraba State, has been identified as the major reason for the outrageous hike in the pump price of<\/p>\n

Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the area.<\/p>\n

Unlike other parts of the state, where a litre of the product is sold at the rate of N185 and N200 in filing stations, the product is being sold between N230 and N250 per litre in Mambilla.<\/p>\n

Some petroleum marketers who spoke with DAILY POST on the condition of anonymity attached the hike to the bad road leading to the area which has an average elevation of 1,600 metres above sea level, making it the highest Plateau in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

They also revealed that the product may sell for above N230 soon, citing the difficulty faced by tanker drivers to navigate the bad roads.<\/p>\n

Reeling out the list of tankers that fell down and the numbers of tankers drivers that have died on the road, they said, they will gladly adjust their pump price to the official price, if the<\/p>\n

the government puts the road in proper shape.<\/p>\n

Apart from the marketers, tanker drivers, and motorists who also spoke with our correspondent, lamented that despite plans to embark on the construction of the Mambilla Hydro<\/p>\n

Power Dam in the area, the government has not yet deemed it fit to fix the road leading to the area.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the untold hardships the bad state of the road has continued to ignite on his subjects, the Chief of Mambilla, Dr.Shehu Audu Baju ll, said travelling from the council to the nearby country of Cameroon Republic, is easier than traveling from the council to Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The first class Chief said \u201conce we get a good road from the foot of the hill to this place, we are satisfied\u201d, stating that \u201cour link to<\/p>\n

Cameroon is very easy because once you get to Dorofi, there are very good roads to Cameroon.\u201d<\/p>\n

, which have also discouraged tourism, had been awarded to several contractors for reconstruction.<\/p>\n
