Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The New Restrictions Order against the Operators of Tricycles popular known as Adaidaita Sahu, has greatly brought down cases of overnight robbery, phone snatching and other general Social Vices.<\/p>\n

Kano had in the wake of frequent cases of overnight robbery, house burglary, and other crimes restricted operations of tricycle operators from 6am to 10pm.<\/p>\n

Although the restrictions had at the beginning caused conflict amongst citizens who largely rely on tricycles for mobility, many eventually confessed that its ban served as their saviour against criminals.<\/p>\n

Speaking to newsmen on the effect of the restrictions after a few weeks of slamming the order, the State Managing Director of Kano Road Transport Agency KAROTA, Baffa Babba DanAgundi, on Thursday, said there is a drastic reduction in crime in the state following the ban.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201calthough our checks show that a large number of Tricycles Operators are people of decent background who conduct their activities within the ambits of the law there are the very few ones who created bad names for the general operators\u201d.<\/p>\n

Baffa Babba DanAgundi explained that those few ones have gone on committing different crimes of phone snatchings, armed robbery and sometimes even conniving with kidnappers.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cwhen too many complaints were lodged to the government on the rising insecurity, specifically at night hours, Governor Ganduje met with security agencies and they concluded that their investigation shows that crimes are largely committed by the tricycles operators\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was how we agreed that there should be a restriction between 10pm to 6am and anybody found wanting should be dealt with accordingly and this had resulted in many of them relocating\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Managing Director added that Government had already provided an alternative to the restrictions while other transporters of taxis and buses were encouraged to replace the tricycles between such hours.<\/p>\n

Baffa while commending Kano people for cooperating with the state government on the restrictions, assured that soon Kano would be completely free of crime.<\/p>\n
