{"id":70156,"date":"2022-08-13T10:45:36","date_gmt":"2022-08-13T09:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/economic-collapse-governors-others-above-50-years-should-resign-nlc"},"modified":"2022-08-13T11:51:31","modified_gmt":"2022-08-13T10:51:31","slug":"economic-collapse-governors-others-above-50-years-should-resign-nlc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/economic-collapse-governors-others-above-50-years-should-resign-nlc","title":{"rendered":"Economic collapse: Governors, others above 50 years should resign \u2013 NLC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Friday criticised the Nigerian Governors Forum\u2019s recommendations to the Federal Government (FG) on how to save the country from economic collapse.<\/p>\n<p>The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, made the observation in a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and made available to newsmen in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that it was alleged that the governors had proposed the elimination of PMS subsidy\/under-recovery estimated at N6-7 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>They had also proposed the early retirement of civil servants from age 50 (fifty) and above and the implementation of the reviewed Oronsaye Report, which suggests ending the financing of the government\u2019s budgetary expenditures.<\/p>\n<p>However, Wabba described the governors\u2019 recommendations to the Federal Government as shameful, insensitive, selfish and hypocritical.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cYour Excellency, while we do agree that the economy is in need of revitalisation, we are dismayed by some of the prescriptions of the governors as they smack of extreme selfishness and insensate cruelty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe find this repugnant, shameful and utterly irresponsible, aside from running contrary to your mission and principle of creating 100 million jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAside from poverty intervention schemes, this policy is a clear invitation to anarchy and damnation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPursuant to this, if State Governors strongly believe that age 50 is the problem, we demand that all governors, public office holders and politicians above 50, as a mark of good faith, should immediately step aside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeading by example would spur public servants to take a cue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeyond this, however, implementation of this policy in the public sector will give a cue to the private sector to follow suit, with all its attendant devastating consequences,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Wabba also said on the issue of removal of fuel subsidy that congress found it \u201cunrealistic, insensitive and hypocritical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
