Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has alerted residents of the FCT of imminent heavy floods in Abuja.<\/p>\n

FEMA asked emergency workers to be ready to save lives and property in the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n

Director-General Abbas Idriss issued a statement on Thursday through the Head of Public Affairs Nkechi Isa.<\/p>\n

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) High Impact-Based Forecast predicts heavy rainfall in the FCT on Thursday and Friday.<\/p>\n

The forecast said there would be flash floods on roads and low lying settlements, disruption of traffic and reduction of visibility.<\/p>\n

Also expected are strong winds accompanying the rains may likely damage mud houses or weak structures.<\/p>\n

Idriss appealed to the people residing in such structures to relocate to safer places.<\/p>\n

He advised restraint through disconnection of electrical appliances, avoidance of parking under trees and driving through waters.<\/p>\n

The agency urged members of the public to dial the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.<\/p>\n
