Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former Head of Department of Economic, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Mustapha Gimba, has warned the federal government over implementation of Orosanye Panel\u2019s Report.<\/p>\n

Prof. Gimba, noted that implementing the report at this difficult times would lead to job losses, hardship and increase criminal activities, adding life span of redundant staff would cut shot due to unforeseen hardship<\/p>\n

The Federal Government had in July, inaugurated the White Paper Drafting Committee on the review of new parastatals, agencies and commissions, headed by Mrs Ebele Okeke, a former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. The committee was to come up with the white paper reports of the committees inaugurated by the Federal Government in November 2021 to consider the Orosanye reports.<\/p>\n

The main aim of the process was to further demonstrate the Federal Government\u2019s commitment to reposition the public service for effective service delivery.<\/p>\n

Although, the federal government had promised that there would be no job losses.<\/p>\n

However, Prof. Mustapha while speaking to DAILYPOST on Saturday, noted that the aim of implementing the report is to reduce cost, but wondered how a ministry or parastatals will merge, without sacking a single personnel.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no way, heads will not roll when it comes to merging two ministries or parastatals. Where we have two different Director Generals, merging the two, means one must go.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said already, many Nigerians are facing serious hardship due to unnecessary economic policies, coupled with criminal activities, adding that implementing Orusanye reports now, will endanger the lives of several Nigerians, including unemployed youths.<\/p>\n

He further advised the federal government, that instead of implementing the reports, it should avoid backdoor recruitment, replacement, of all kinds in various ministries and parastatals, adding that as people are retiring from service, it will be obvious that personnel cost and other overheads will automatically reduce.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn some organisations, new recruitment is done without job advertisement. As workers retire, the workforce will reduce, gradually, without additional recruitment or replacement, such ministry or parastatals will die a natural death,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
