Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The management of the Kaduna State University, on Saturday, berated the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Victor Emmanuel Osodeke over his comment that some State-owned universities in Nigeria are quacks.<\/p>\n

The ASUU President, during a live interview on burning national issues, had referred to some State-owned universities in Nigeria as quacks.<\/p>\n

Responding in a statement by the Kaduna State University\u2019s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Adamu Nuhu Bargo on behalf of the management, he said<\/p>\n

the whole world was taken aback by the unguarded, misleading and derogatory statement by the ASUU National President.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, it was obvious that by such a statement that ASUU is not actually struggling for a better educational system in Nigeria but for personal and irresponsible aggrandizement.<\/p>\n

The statement wondered whether the Professor of Soil Science really understands what the word quack represents.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuack means a person who dishonestly claims to have knowledge and skill in some field with little or no foundation, as better exemplified by professionals,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

He said KASU is a new generation University and the second most-sought State-owned University, as well as the fastest growing in Nigeria, which was established 18 years ago with eminent scholars like Prof. Idris A. Abdulkadir, OFR and Prof. Abubakar A. Rasheed, MFR, as the pioneer Council members, adding that those scholars made sure that the appointments of qualified lecturers were never compromised.<\/p>\n

He said the foundation and ethical determination to sustain the same had remained the basic principle of engaging academic and non-academic staff.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cKASU is recognised by NUC as a standard University, KASU has some of the best brains that are competing favourably with their counterparts around the globe,\u201d adding that the world No 4 best polymer chemist is in KASU.<\/p>\n

He said lecturers in KASU had attracted grants both locally and internationally and were highly rated.<\/p>\n

He said KASU has members in ASUU and that it was unfortunate if the ASUU President was saying that they were quacks while enjoying monthly check-off fees from their salaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes this not give a good reason for every reasonable academic staff in the university to pull off from the Union for this labelling and stereotyping?\u201d He asked.<\/p>\n
