Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Following the lingering crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governor Nyesom Wike\u2019s team has reportedly pulled out of the campaign Council of the party\u2019s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.<\/p>\n

The development was disclosed shortly after a meeting early Wednesday morning in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST learnt that members of the Rivers State Governor\u2019s team, during the meeting, vowed not to play any role in Atiku\u2019s campaign ahead of the 2023 general elections.<\/p>\n

According to them, they have no part in the coming presidential election until the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, resigns his position.<\/p>\n

In a communique read by a chieftain of the PDP, Olabode George in the meeting at the village home of Governor Wike, it was resolved that unless Ayu resigns his position as the national chairman of the party for an Acting southern chairman, the team would never participate in the campaigns.<\/p>\n

Some of the key faces in the meeting included Bode George, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, former Governors of Ondo, Olusegun Mimiko, Donald Duke of Cross River, Jonah Jang of Plateau, Ayo Fayose of Ekiti States, Prof Jerry Gana, among others.<\/p>\n

According to a source, the meeting which started at about 7pm on Tuesday night, lasted till about 3 a.m. on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Recall that Wike\u2019s loyalists in the main opposition party had demanded the resignation of Ayu as the only condition to restore normalcy in the party.<\/p>\n

The current crisis followed the outcome of the party\u2019s presidential primary election which produced the former vice president as the party\u2019s flagbearer.<\/p>\n
