Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has said the Memorandum of Understanding signed by its governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu and his running mate, Adekunle Akinlade, was not to loot the resources of the State.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST reports that the party had on Friday released a copy of the agreement between Adebutu and Akinlade, highlighting how positions would be shared within the two camps when elected into office.<\/p>\n

But, immediately the document surfaced online, it generated reactions from different individuals and groups.<\/p>\n

A group had alleged that the PDP leaders were devising strategies on how to part Ogun positions and resources among their cronies.<\/p>\n

Reacting in a statement on Saturday, the Media Director of Ladi Adebutu & Akinlade Campaign Organisation, Afolabi Orekoya, described the comments as mischievous, saying \u201cthe false claim that there was a verbal agreement made to get kickbacks from contractors and to be shared at certain percentages between Adebutu and Akinlade is nothing but mischievous attempt to cheap blackmail.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Orekoya, there was a desperation to discredit Adebutu and Akinlade ahead of the 2023 elections by people who already felt their aspirations were being threatened by the alignment of the two politicians.<\/p>\n

Orekoya maintained that the agreement was purposely released to the public to foster cordial working relationship between the loyalists of Adebutu and his running mate, stating that \u201cit was legally binding to show sincerity of purpose between the two groups.\u201d<\/p>\n

The PDP leader said the agreement did not violate any part of the constitution, nor did it encourage stealing of public funds.<\/p>\n

\u201cRather, it is meant for the general public to know that there is nothing hidden as being speculated in some circles,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It was further stated that the sharing of elective and appointive offices is not new across political spectrums, especially in situations where there are alignments of forces.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor emphasis, the document in circulation was deliberately made available to the public in good faith and to demonstrate transparency. It is to show the gentleman nature of Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu who is willing and ready to replicate such gestures with the good people of Ogun State.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates are both successful businessmen with unquestionable characters. Their track records at the Green Chamber speak volumes of their achievements.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge members of the public not to allow mischievous characters to misinform and mislead them in a bid to deny them of the right to vote into power our candidates who are the choice of the people,\u201d Orekoya submitted.<\/p>\n
