Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has been asked to arrest an aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Jimi Lawal, for alleged forgery.<\/p>\n

Four other suspended members of the party, Bola Odumosu, Ajadi Fasiu, Kola Akinyemi, and Tope Ashiru, were also asked to be arrested over the same allegation.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST reports that the Ogun PDP State Organising Secretary, Kola Ogunyemi, had petitioned the Inspector General in a letter dated October 18, accusing the five of forgery, impersonation, threat to life, and conducts likely to cause breach of peace.<\/p>\n

According to an acknowledged copy of the petition made available to our correspondent on Thursday, Ogunyemi sought the immediate intervention of the IGP in \u201capprehending and prosecuting the respondents, if found culpable.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the petition, Ogunyemi said his signature was sighted in a letter purportedly written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), asking the commission to attend and monitor a fresh primary election held on Monday by the Jimi Lawal camp.<\/p>\n

Ogunyemi maintained that the letter co-signed by Odumosu was done without his knowledge.<\/p>\n

The petition signed by his counsel, Dr Oladimeji Balogun of Swiss Attorneys, Abeokuta, read that, \u201cOur client denies a prior knowledge of the said letter and states that the said letter which was purportedly signed on his behalf does not represent our client\u2019s resolve to follow the directives and the overriding decisions of the Peoples Democratic Party.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was stated further that, \u201cthe persons who issued the letter are mischievous impostors whose impersonation was not inadvertent. It was directed towards maligning our client and destroying his fast emerging political popularity.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the past few days, Ogunyemi explained that the respondents\u2019 letter to INEC had incited the party\u2019s members against him, saying people now engage him in open confrontation.<\/p>\n

The petition read partly: \u201cOur client has been subjected to physical attacks with a plethora of threats, blaming our client for issuing the said insensitive, inappropriate, and irresponsible correspondence with sheer disregard to the party\u2019s resolve to challenge the judgement delivered by the Federal High Court at the court of Appeal.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur client can no longer sleep with his eyes closed as he receives calls threatening his life and that of his beloved ones, demanding that our client give a logical reason for the issuance of the letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cMembers of the PDP now relate with our client with scorn, tagging him as a dissident within the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know as a fact that unless your office intervenes and investigates our client\u2019s petition, the respondents will continue to defame our client and all that he stands for.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe therefore humbly request that your good office investigates our client\u2019s petition and bring the respondents to book.\u201d<\/p>\n

Contacted to speak on the allegations against him and others, Jimi Lawal denied forging the signature of Ogunyemi in any letter, saying he has no reason to forge anybody\u2019s signature.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is the signature that was forged? Why do I need to forge his signature when there are other exco members who have signed? I have no reason, I have no intention, I have no benefit whatsoever in forging anybody\u2019s signature. It\u2019s a waste of time,\u201d Jimi Lawal said.<\/p>\n
