Towards preventing recurring issues of building collapse recently recorded in some parts of the country, some houses, which failed integrity have been marked for demolition within Akure, the Ondo State capital by the state government.<\/p>\n
With 16 houses identified to have been dilapidated and partially collapsed, the affected buildings have subsequently been marked for demolition and quit notices served to the occupants with advice by the state government that occupants should seek shelter elsewhere<\/p>\n
The affected houses situated around Oyemekun rd, Gbogi street, lgboliki, odi- olowo, lsolo, Ijomu and Oba-Ile areas of Akure.<\/p>\n
According to the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Prince Solagbade Amodeni, the move by the state government is to ensure that lives are safeguarded under its watch by preventing avoidable calamity from occurring.<\/p>\n
The Commissioner, who spoke while monitoring exercise to identify the weak buildings, maintained that the ministry will continue to move round the city to ensure that such houses are recommended for demolition.<\/p>\n
Prince Amodeni also assured that adequate awareness will be embarked upon as parts of effort at sensitizing the people on the dangers inherent in occupying houses not in good condition.<\/p>\n
He advised occupants of houses in such condition to value their lives and seek for shelter elsewhere saying the state is not ready to suffer loss of lives of its citizens.<\/p>\n
Engr. Stephen Olumilola, a staff of the ministry, who was also on the monitoring team stated professionally that the house is failed structurally as it has cracked to its foundation, adding that the structure cannot be salvaged.<\/p>\n
He posited that the residents should vacate the building, as the rainy season which is approaching will aid the collapse of the house thereby trapping the residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
