Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former Nigerian diplomats have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly restructure the nation\u2019s security architecture following an alert of an imminent terror attack on the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.<\/p>\n

The diplomats said that national interest should rank above personal interest while blaming the president for embracing a faulty security structure in the country.<\/p>\n

Recall that the United States and other western countries had, during the week, issued travel advisories to its citizens, warning about possible terror attacks in the nation\u2019s capital, Abuja.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Coordinator, Ambassador Ibrahim Gambo Kazaure, the former diplomats lamented that the current security arrangements put in place by President Buhari had rather worsened Nigeria\u2019s security system.<\/p>\n

They cited the president\u2019s resort to regionalism, and ethnic and nepotistic considerations, maintaining that such action has brought Nigeria to its current security situation.<\/p>\n

Operating under the aegis of the Forum of Retired Diplomats in Nigeria (FRDN), the diplomats insisted that the time is ripe for the president to shun ethnic and regional considerations for the country to move forward.<\/p>\n

The retired diplomats, having served Nigeria both within and in foreign missions, also flayed the Federal Government for dismissing the US security reports.<\/p>\n

Part of their statement read: \u201cWatching from the vantage position given where we had variously worked before retirement, we humbly appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of national interest, sack the National Adviser, NSA, Monguno and the security chiefs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis should be immediately followed by a sweeping reform in the security sector through the restructuring of the entire security architecture. This becomes necessary given that the security network in the country has collapsed.\u201d<\/p>\n
