Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The South-North Conference Group (SNCG) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to stop his continual violation of the nation\u2019s constitution by refusing to transmit power to the Vice President before travelling out of the country to seek medical attention.<\/p>\n

The civil society group claimed the president\u2019s alleged refusal to hand over to VP Osinbajo has left the country \u201cofficially\u201d without a President amid the myriads of challenges bedevilling it.<\/p>\n

SNCG also said the action of President Buhari shows a blatant disregard for the country\u2019s constitution and undermines the office of the Vice President.<\/p>\n

This was contained in a communique\u0301 issued at the end of the group\u2019s meeting in Jos, Plateau State.<\/p>\n

The statement was signed by its President, Ihemegbulem Charles and General Secretary Lokta Danladi, who said the group resolved to voice its concern about recent events adversely affecting Nigeria.<\/p>\n

It reads, \u201cThe South-North Conference Group is calling on President Mohammadu Buhari to put a full stop to further violation of the Nigerian constitution following his continual deliberate refusal to transmit power to the Vice President before jetting off to seek medical attention, which by implication means Nigeria is officially without a president amidst very turbulent insecurity alerts, economic summersault, and hardship in the land.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a blatant disregard for the constitution of our dear country and a serious undermining of the office of the Vice President.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy should an entire nation-state entertain a vacuum in its top leadership even for a split second? We reject the narrative pushed around by the people in Aso Villa that the president can lead from anywhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurthermore, the Vice President, despite showing uncommon loyalty and competence cannot be rewarded with humiliation and suppression in such a manner\u201d, the group maintained.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is the president adamant on this matter? Did Prof. Yemi Osinbajo not perform excellently well in 2017 when he acted as President in his absence?<\/p>\n

\u201cOne is forced to speculate that it has something to do with the controversial suspension of Mamman Daura in 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing by some very disturbing concerns brought to our notice, this matter is raising heavy harmattan dust capable of doing serious damage to our already fragile national unity as the South is considering this move a direct insult, statement of mistrust and an act of intimidation because the vice president Prof. Yomi Osibanjo invariably represents the interest of southern Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\u2018As a group, we join our voice to that of respected elder statesman and leader of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, Chief Edwin Clark who painstakingly repudiated this gross violation of our constitution and the undermining of the office of the Vice President\u201d, the Group explained.<\/p>\n
