Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has denied mocking the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar over Olusegun Obasanjo\u2019s endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.<\/p>\n

Wike said his comments about Obi\u2019s endorsement by Obasanjo instead of Atiku were borne out of concern.<\/p>\n

The governor made the comments while flagging off a new road project in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Wike said he had initially \u201cprayed\u201d that Obasanjo remains quiet because anything contrary will affect the PDP.<\/p>\n

While dismissing claims that he was mocking Atiku, Wike said it is only those worried about the PDP that love the party.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI meant nothing bad. I\u2019m only worried as a prominent PDP member. A man who loves PDP should be worried.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not even mocking anybody. I was merely worried. My prayer was, let Obasanjo remain quiet and not say anything; that was my prayer but my prayer didn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy prayer was that if this man makes any statement, it indicts us. Because he was President under the Peoples Democratic Party and he worked with our presidential candidate for eight years and the campaign of our presidential council is that our presidential candidate during the eight years did very well and when you now consider that having done so, then the principal will hand him over to Nigeria. But when the principal said it\u2019s another person, it worried me.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was why I said something is fundamentally wrong and instead of them to say, what do you think is wrong, they are abusing me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor added that the crisis within the PDP will continue until the right things are done.<\/p>\n

He however insisted that nobody will drive him out of the party he helped build.<\/p>\n
