Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>John Cardinal Onaiyekan has cautioned politicians planning to rig Nigeria\u2019s 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

He said with the current yearnings of the people, \u201cthe election will no longer be business as usual\u201d.<\/p>\n

Onaiyekan spoke on Saturday at the Holy Trinity Church in Maitama, Abuja.<\/p>\n

The Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of the nation\u2019s capital marked his 40th anniversary as Bishop.<\/p>\n

Onaiyekan told politicians to \u201cdesist from any form of manipulation to their favour if not voted for\u201d.<\/p>\n

The religious leader said those planning to \u201cplay games and schemes\u201d must drop their plot.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should allow this election to run in a free and fair way\u201d, said the ex-Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leader.<\/p>\n

Onaiyekan confirmed he has no special candidate but only wants the wishes of the electorate to prevail.<\/p>\n

He said the current mood of Nigerians is not the type that would \u201cquietly accept a rigged election\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be serious repercussions if anybody doesn\u2019t allow free and fair elections,\u201d Onaiyekan warned.<\/p>\n
