Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Some members of the Taraba State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, have dissociated themselves from the union demanding their pensions and gratuities from the state government.<\/p>\n

The members were identified as Concerned Pensioners.<\/p>\n

The NUP, in a press release on Saturday, said that they should not be associated with the new group\u2019s unofficial protests, statements and an ongoing seven-day prayer and fasting session to frustrate Governor Darius Ishaku\u2019s political ambition.<\/p>\n

Jointly signed by the chairman, Kefas Katan and Secretary, Paul A. Tyav, the Union said those organising the protests and issuing the press statements have no locus-standi to embark on such activities.<\/p>\n

Those organizing the protests, according to the statement, \u201care not State Officials of the NUP, not Officials of the local branches in their respective local governments, nor are they delegates of the Union who can vote and be voted for.\u201d<\/p>\n

The so-called Concerned Pensioners, the statement said, \u201care just out to dent the good image of the Union in the face of the public and weaken its bargaining strength as well as attempting to bring the name of the NUP in Taraba State to disrepute\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Concerned Pensioners, led by Silas Jafta, have been at the forefront of clamouring for pensioner\u2019s pensions and gratuities which\\ have been lingering for the past ten years.<\/p>\n
