Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Traders, taxi drivers, shoe shiners, bus drivers and artisans in Kaduna and its environs on Saturday called on the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele to urgently release the lower denominations of the nation\u2019s currency for their businesses to return to life.<\/p>\n

They explained that since the lower denominations were not part of the new currencies swapped, they ought to be in circulation to make life easy for citizens.<\/p>\n

The artisans claimed that higher naira notes like 1000, 500 and 200 are meant for big businesses and its scarcity affects only people of a higher class in the country.<\/p>\n

Mallam Abdullahi Haruna, a shoe shiner said shinning shoes only cost N50 and if there is a surplus of these lower denominations, his business will return to normal.<\/p>\n

A bus driver, Abdullahi Garba said passengers pay between N50 to N100 per drop but since the currency scarcity began, lower denominations also disappeared.<\/p>\n

He said some customers with bigger denominations find it difficult to get their change when they pay for services.<\/p>\n

He added that once the lower denominations are available, it would boost the economy<\/p>\n

In the same vein, Joseph Alha who operates barbing saloon said hair cut ranges between N150, N200. But since the scarcity of new notes, all denominations of currency are scarce, adding that the CBN Governor should have made the lower denominations of currency available to boost cash circulation.<\/p>\n
