Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Taraba State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, has vowed to appeal the Federal High Court\u2019s judgement which nullified the candidacy of its guber candidate, Senator Joel Ikenya.<\/p>\n

In a statement by its campaign council on Wednesday, they noted that the \u201cstate governorship candidate of our party, will be exercising his right of appeal on the judgement of the Federal High Court, Jalingo, delivered on Saturday, 4th February, 2023 in order to seek redress on the obvious miscarriage of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The court last Saturday nullified the emergence of the former Minister of Labour as the party\u2019s governorship candidate for this year\u2019s general elections.<\/p>\n

The council could not fathom the reason behind his sack when the Federal High Court, Abuja\u2019s judgement of 25th October 2022 had validated the candidature, \u201cafter the INEC monitored primary election conducted on the 18th of August, 2022\u201d.<\/p>\n

It said its candidate is not a candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.<\/p>\n

Arguing that \u201cthe trial judge, for reasons best known to him, chose to declare otherwise; even when the facts had been placed before the court\u201d the NNPP Senatorial Candidate for Taraba South, they said remain Alhaji Mohammed Ikra, and not Ikenya.<\/p>\n

The council, who said they are \u201camazed at how the Court capitulated to the argument of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that Ikenya holds double nomination\u201d, affirmed that \u201cwe are confident that the matter would be redressed by the higher courts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also of the view that \u201ca political party has no locus standi to challenge the nomination process of another political party or candidate\u201d claimed that they are \u201caware of the boastings, from some quarters, about having the clout and money to ensure that the anointed candidate emerges the Governor.\u201d<\/p>\n

They said the council \u201cdo not begrudge them their privileged position and the enormous resources at their disposal.\u201d<\/p>\n

While urging the party\u2019s supporters to remain calm, they beckoned at those trying to frustrate the party to, as a matter of urgency, desist from such acts stating, \u201cWe just wish to remind them that in all these things, it is God\u2019s will, and the will of the good people of Taraba State that will really count at the end of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n
