Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The erstwhile governorship candidate of the African Democratic Party, APC, in Cross River State, Effiong Nyong has urged the Governor-elect, Bassey Otu to immediately review the scary tax regimes in the state.<\/p>\n

In a statement released in Calabar on Friday, the ace broadcaster also asked the incoming government to practically revive tourism which he said has always been the bedrock of the state.<\/p>\n

Nyong said a complete review of the tax regime in the state and the removal of revenue points from the grip of political lackeys would attract investors and encourage businesses which abandoned the state to return.<\/p>\n

In the area of tourism, he noted that there was a time when people\u2019s residences were converted to apartments for lodgers in Calabar when tourism was at its peak in the state.<\/p>\n

He was worried that the state is no more at such a peak<\/p>\n

\u201cGovernment and its agencies must think outside the box and create sustainable practical tourism initiatives to drive tourism all year round.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bahamas with less than 350,000 people attracts over 5 million visitors annually. Tourism initiatives will bring more money than oil.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also touched on the issue of local government autonomy, saying the time to allow its administration has come. He advised the state to stop running what he described as a back-pocket economy.<\/p>\n

Against what reportedly held away in the previous administrations, he seriously frowned at nepotism, saying it should never again be allowed into the administration of the state.<\/p>\n

He alleged that incompetence and lack of capacity had characterized the out-going administration and should not be allowed to continue after swearing in on 29th of May 2023.<\/p>\n
