{"id":86741,"date":"2023-04-23T21:53:46","date_gmt":"2023-04-23T20:53:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/fg-begins-payment-of-salary-increment"},"modified":"2023-04-24T00:54:28","modified_gmt":"2023-04-23T23:54:28","slug":"fg-begins-payment-of-salary-increment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/fg-begins-payment-of-salary-increment","title":{"rendered":"FG begins payment of salary increment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal Government has begun the payment of the approved pay rise to civil servants in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, disclosed in March that the Federal Government had approved a pay rise for civil servants.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the pay rise had been included in the 2023 budget, noting that it would take effect from Jan. 1.<\/p>\n<p>Some civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have commended the Federal Government over the payment of the 40 per cent peculiar allowance together with the April salary.<\/p>\n<p>Some of them who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday, described the payment as timely.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Agnes Iguben, a civil servant, said she was surprised to see an increase when she received her salary for April.<\/p>\n<p>She said the money would go a long way in meeting her family\u2019s needs throughout the month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to commend President Muhammadu Buhari, though I do not know what the increase is about but the government did well for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people said it is a 40 per cent increase to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy that will be removed in June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever it is, I pray it will continue so that my family can live an improved life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Abubakar Idowu, another civil servant, said that the development was commendable and well appreciated.<\/p>\n<p>Idowu said that although he was yet to receive the credit alert of his salary, he was convinced the news story is true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod bless PMB. I know even his enemies will pray for him secretly for this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is meant to help government workers to cushion the effects of rising inflation, the rising cost of living, hikes in transportation fare, housing, electricity and the likely removal of fuel subsidy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Another civil servant, Mrs Ngozi Ebe, advised fellow workers to spend wisely as the money was meant to cushion the effect of the proposed subsidy removal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn case you received arrears of payments, please do not spend it all, in case fuel subsidy is removed from the month of June,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Another civil servant who preferred anonymity appealed to the President-elect to continue with the payment with a view to gaining popularity from workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost times, outgoing governments will make a law and the new government can change it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI pray that this will not be the case with this increment,\u201d the worker said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
