{"id":87010,"date":"2023-04-28T10:08:02","date_gmt":"2023-04-28T09:08:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/ogoni-group-drags-fg-to-court-over-alleged-contempt"},"modified":"2023-04-28T13:02:33","modified_gmt":"2023-04-28T12:02:33","slug":"ogoni-group-drags-fg-to-court-over-alleged-contempt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/ogoni-group-drags-fg-to-court-over-alleged-contempt","title":{"rendered":"Ogoni group drags FG to court over alleged contempt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Incorporated Trustees of Ekere Piya Ogoni Initiative has commenced contempt proceedings before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt against the Minister of Environment, Mohammed Hassan-Andullahi and the Minister of State for Environment, Udi Odum for alleged disregard to court orders.<\/p>\n<p>The Incorporated Trustees of Ekere Piya Ogoni Initiative had on the 15th of February, 2023, secured an order of the court, suspending the planned flag-off of Ogoni Power Project.<\/p>\n<p>The order also restrained the first and second defendants from taking any action as regards the subject matter in the suit.<\/p>\n<p>But Incorporated Trustees of Ekere Piya Ogoni Initiative, in a contempt of court proceedings against the Minister of Environment and Minister of State for Environment, want the court to commit the defendants to prison for violating the order of the court presided over by Justice Phoebe Ayua.<\/p>\n<p>They revealed in the court proceedings that the first and second defendants in the suit had gone ahead to mobilize workers for the Ogoni Power Project Right of Way to carry out survey, mapping and other activities preparatory to flagging-off the said project, as well as engagement with community development committees in relation to the project.<\/p>\n<p>The process has been served on both parties, awaiting a date for hearing by the trial Judge, Justice Ayua of the Federal High Court sitting in PortHarcourt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
