Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has revealed how traditional rulers can be protected from the governors of their respective states.<\/p>\n

Sani advocated on Twitter that traditional rulers need constitutional protection so as to be independent like judges.<\/p>\n

Unless there is such constitutional protection, Sani held that Emirs, Obas and other monarchs would continue to live at the mercy of governors.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST reports that monarchs in their various communities are under the control of governors, who have absolute powers over their appointment and removal.<\/p>\n

Monarchs, no matter how powerful, exalted or influential they may be, are always careful to avoid the wrath of their governors, who may order their suspension or total removal from their stools.<\/p>\n

Recall that an Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, was in 2020 deposed by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for his constant criticism of the government in power.<\/p>\n

Sani suggested that monarchs should have some level of independence when he said: \u201cUntil traditional rulers are constitutionally protected like Judges, they will continue to live at the mercy and pleasure of state Governors.\u201d<\/p>\n
