Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>As Nigerians are anxious to witness the transition of Power from the present government under Buhari to another democratically elected regime.<\/p>\nThe recent issue of the President elect. Bola Tinubu’s jetting out of the country to Europe is sparking divergent views as some are suspecting that his traveling is connected to health related issues while others are of the opinion that the man has right to travel at any moment he wishes.<\/p>\n
It could also be recalled that Tinubu returned to the country a few weeks ago as he spent weeks between France , United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia where he performed lesser hajji.<\/p>\n
Tinubu jetted out of the country ahead of the May 29 inauguration<\/b><\/p>\n
According to a statement by Bola Tinubu’s media aide Tunde Rahman, The Nigerian President elect. was billed to meet with investors and key allies in business during his trip to Europe.<\/p>\n
This is coming two weeks after he returned to the country from an overseas trip.<\/p>\n
Rahman, in a statement, said: \u201cPresident elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday afternoon, left Nigeria for Europe on a working visit. He will use the opportunity of the trip to fine-tune transition plans and programmes, and his policy options with some of his key aides without unnecessary pressures and distractions.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the visit, the President-elect will engage with investors and other key allies, with the goal of marketing investment opportunities in the country and his administration\u2019s readiness to enable a business friendly climate through policies and regulations.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlready, meetings with multi sectoral actors in Europe\u2019s business community, including manufacturing, agriculture, tech, and energy have been lined up.\u201d The media said.<\/p>\n
Divergent views on the trip<\/b><\/p>\n
Thelma Okoh is the Chief Strategist, Winstarbel Communications Limited . She said since Tinubu hasn\u2019t been sworn in, it is within his rights to travel wherever he wants and at any time.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe had a rigorous campaign. He has a right to his privacy, and until he is sworn in, he is not yet our president; he is still president-elect.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe, he is using this time to manage his health or he is even working on his personal businesses, to make things work out seamlessly, when he is eventually sworn in on May 29.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether he has traveled for pleasure, tourism or health reasons, it shouldn\u2019t be used against him, since he is not yet the president. He still has his time to himself. Probably, he has gone to engage Nigerians in diaspora. Even if we try to use it against him, can we leave out our people (Nigerians) who are in diaspora from his new agenda? They are also key players in the growth of the economy.\u201d The communication expert said.<\/p>\n
Legal practitioner, Wale Irokuso, said Tinubu\u2019s trip should not be a thing Nigerians would panic about, noting that people should be concerned about policies he is bringing on board.<\/p>\n
“The truth of the matter is, someone traveling abroad is nothing out of the ordinary. And I don\u2019t know why anybody is making a fuss about it. There\u2019s no serious minded person in Nigeria, in business, that doesn\u2019t move in and out of the country frequently.\u201d The lawyer expressed.<\/p>\n
However, the President, Centre for Human and Socio Economic Rights (CHSR), Alex Omotehinse, said he doesn\u2019t foresee any difference between Tinubu\u2019s administration and President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s government.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is obvious that the man is not 100 percent okay, health wise. During the electioneering campaign, there were several reports that he traveled for medicals. Now, he hasn\u2019t been sworn in, he is already traveling. In the history of this country, Buhari was outside the country for four months to treat his ailment. Is that what we are going to nurse again in the next administration?\u201d He said.<\/p>\n
At this point Nigerians have every reason to panic about the health of their leaders as it has impact on the progress of the nation that needs effective leadership.<\/p>\n
President ‘Yar’adua’s tenure and that of Buhari created so much fear in the mind of Nigerians as their health status was attributed to their low performance as the citizens were optimistic of their positive plan and intention to the development of the country.<\/p>\n
