Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, on Saturday, called on all corps members participating in the ongoing zonal preliminaries of the 2023 NYSC Sports and Cultural Festival to use the event to expand friendships among themselves.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the flag-off of the festival at the NYSC permanent orientation camp at Wailo in the Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state, Yakubu urged corps members to grab the opportunity provided by the festival to expand their scope of friendship.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to use this medium to encourage you all to grab this opportunity to expand the horizons of friendship among yourselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, ensure that you don\u2019t take your participation in any of these activities as a do-or-die affair,\u201d Yakubu said.<\/p>\n

The state coordinator explained that the festival was aimed at sharpening the sporting skills of corps members, while also learning about the cultural backgrounds of other tribes.<\/p>\n

According to her, the festival is holding in states across the six zones of the country, namely Osun, Enugu, Delta, Jigawa, Bauchi, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/p>\n

She said the festival has not only gone a long way in promoting national unity and integration but also enhances sports and cultural integration as well as development in the country.<\/p>\n

Yakubu then urged participating teams, coaches, and officiating officials to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and fairness.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay I also charge all the participating teams, schedule officers, and coaches to act with the utmost fairness so as to avoid rancour and bitterness,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Deputy Director, Community Development Service, NYSC Headquarters, Abuja, Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaibu, admonished participants in the sports and cultural fiesta to play fairly, interact, and establish good relationships with one another.<\/p>\n

States competing in the Bauchi zone include Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Kano, Taraba, and Yobe. They are competing in football, volleyball, athletics, dance, drama, and comedy.<\/p>\n
