{"id":89138,"date":"2023-06-03T10:34:12","date_gmt":"2023-06-03T09:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/subsidy-removal-revert-to-status-quo-tuc-tells-fg"},"modified":"2023-06-03T13:48:32","modified_gmt":"2023-06-03T12:48:32","slug":"subsidy-removal-revert-to-status-quo-tuc-tells-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/subsidy-removal-revert-to-status-quo-tuc-tells-fg","title":{"rendered":"Subsidy Removal: Revert to status quo \u2013 TUC tells FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has urged the Federal Government to revert to status quo over its decision to remove fuel subsidy.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Festus Osifo, TUC President, spoke while addressing newsmen at the end of an emergency meeting of the congress\u2019s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Friday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>According to Osifo, the TUC is unhappy with the unilateral decision of the Federal Government to remove the subsidy.<\/p>\n<p>He said the TUC\u2019s expectation was that the government should have engaged Organised labour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving noted this, we wish to state that the NEC-in- session resolved that discussions with Federal Government should continue while demanding that the government should revert to the status quo ante.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe status quo ante should be maintained while discussions continue as we had a meeting with the government on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring that discussion, they gave us a list of all the things they would do and they also demanded to know our thinking and what we are putting up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe told them the lists of the things we want to put forward, we will not submit them now but put them forward to our organs, to discuss and seek a mandate from them of the things we can put forward,\u2019 \u2018he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Osifo, it is how the government reacts to TUC\u2019s demands that will determine the union\u2019s next line of action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will wait till Sunday when we will meet with the representatives of the government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we are done with that meeting then the TUC is going to put its demands forward, it is how they react to those demands that will determine our next line of action, \u201dhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress also had its NEC meeting and has said it will embark on a nationwide strike from June 7 if the issue of fuel subsidy removal and increase in the price of fuel is not reverted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
