Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Hon. Idris Wase has called on the members of the House of Representatives to come together to confront the bigger matters of stability of the parliament and enrich legislative governance to deepen the nation\u2019s collective democracy.<\/p>\n

Wase also congratulated Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu on their emergence as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, respectively.<\/p>\n

Recall that Wase fought for the speakership position against Abbas.<\/p>\n

In a personal statement issued on Tuesday, Wase conceded defeat and said they are all partners in the project of deepening the nation\u2019s parliamentary democracy.<\/p>\n

The house member claimed his contest for the speakership position was much more about making a case for what he considered as a lack of equity and fairness in the manner the All Progressives Congress, APC\u2019s, zoning was done than about winning.<\/p>\n

Part of the statement read: \u201cI wish to extend my sincere congratulations to Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu on their election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively of the 10th House of Representatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough we were on different sides of the political space, we have, nevertheless always acknowledged that we were all partners in the project of deepening our parliamentary democracy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe my contest in this Speakership election was much more about making a case for what I considered a lack of equity and fairness in the manner in which my Party\u2019s zoning was done much more than it was about winning.\u201d<\/p>\n
