Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Adamawa State High Court has declared null and void the purported impeachment of the Chairman of Mubi South Local Government Council, Hamidu Dirbishi.<\/p>\n

The state High Court 7, which sat on Friday in the capital, Yola, also reinstated the council vice chairman, Ishaku Dauda, who was earlier impeached along with the chairman by some among the councillors of the local government area.<\/p>\n

Justice Ahmed Isa declared that the placement of Mohammed Haruna as chairman following the purported removal of Hamidu Dirbishi was illegal.<\/p>\n

Justice Isa, who made the declarations while delivering judgement on the suit filed by Mohammed Haruna, stated that Hamidu Dirbishi and his vice president were never removed from office.<\/p>\n

He further declared that all actions purportedly taken or executed by the said Mohammed Haruna in his capacity or office as chairman of Mubi South LGC or by any person parading to be the vice chairman are null and void and of no effect whatsoever.<\/p>\n

He further restrained him and the Mubi South LGC from interfering with the functions and duties of Hamidu Dirbishi and Ishaku Dauda as chairman and vice chairman of Mubi South LGC.<\/p>\n

He awarded N200,000 as damages against Mohammed and the council in favour of Hamidu Dirbishi and Ishaku for unlawful interference with their duties and functions as chairman and vice chairman, respectively.<\/p>\n

He said the process that the councillors followed in the purported impeachment was hurriedly carried out, that the councillors acted with impunity and arrogance.<\/p>\n

The councillors had impeached the chairman and his vice last month over alleged irregularities, prompting a crisis situation that later made the State House of Assembly to intervene by suspending the embattled chairman and vice as well as the councillors.<\/p>\n
