Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Long queues surfaced on Tuesday at filling stations in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, following the further hike in price of petrol.<\/p>\n

Many filling stations stopped dispensing fuel immediately they discovered that the NNPCL had increased the pump price from N500 to N617 per litre.<\/p>\n

The few filling stations selling the product in Abeokuta sell between N620 and N650, causing transporters to hike fares.<\/p>\n

Our correspondent visited NNPC at Oke-Mosan, Goldzek at Ibara Housing Estate, NIPCO, Abiola way, and Itoku, all in Abeokuta, where customers were seen in long queues struggling to buy petrol.<\/p>\n

Kaslat at Oke Lantoro, Mao at Olorunsogo, Kaab as well as Sunny Yinka at Leme, shut down their operations.<\/p>\n

Some residents, who spoke with our correspondent, expressed frustration over the increased fuel price.<\/p>\n

A taxi driver, Usman Adeola, said, \u201cit is not good, Nigerians are just being made to suffer everyday. Our children are in school, we have not paid their tuition, rent has not been completed, even to feed ourselves is a huge challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cI swear to God Almighty, I have never eaten anything today. I am a cab driver, and here on the queue. The car owner is waiting for daily returns.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his part, Shope Leoso posited that: \u201cThis is an inhumane treatment by the government. Government removed fuel subsidy without putting in necessary palliatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing should be palliatives like increasing salary and subsidising food before you remove subsidy.\u201d<\/p>\n
