{"id":92730,"date":"2023-07-24T16:06:16","date_gmt":"2023-07-24T15:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/fg-to-fine-pos-agents-n10m-over-service-charge-increment"},"modified":"2023-07-24T22:50:35","modified_gmt":"2023-07-24T21:50:35","slug":"fg-to-fine-pos-agents-n10m-over-service-charge-increment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/fg-to-fine-pos-agents-n10m-over-service-charge-increment","title":{"rendered":"FG to fine PoS agents N10m over service charge increment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The federal government has said Point of Sale, PoS agents found guilty of price fixing will pay a fine of up to N10 million or three months prison sentence.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Competition &amp; Consumer Protection Commission disclosed in a statement on Monday by its Executive Vice Chairman, Babatunde Irukera.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that PoS agents under the aegis of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents, AMMBAN, had increased their service charge for withdrawals and deposits.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the FCCPC entered an Order &amp; Notice (ONC) served to the executives of AMMBAN, prohibiting PoS agents from further implementing the price increment.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission warned that the disobedience of its ONC would be met with severe punishment.<\/p>\n<p>FCCPC explained that violating its Order would attract one million Naira fine for individual PoS agents, and N10 million for corporate agents or a three months prison sentence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FCCPA provides the Commission with statutory tools to ensure compliance and penalise law violations.
