Police say they have freed two kidnapped Chinese nationals working on a road project in southeast Nigeria, three days after they were captured last week.<\/p>\n
Armed abductors were forced to give up workers Sun Zhixin and Wang Quing Hu, employed by the Tongyi group of companies, on Saturday morning because police were closing in on their forest hideout near the construction site in Ebonyi State.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe pressure was so much on the kidnappers that they had to abandon them and flee,\u201d state police spokesperson Loveth Odah told journalists on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were rescued in a thick forest around the area unhurt. They were not physically tortured but they may be psychologically tortured,\u201d she added, reports newspaper Premium Times.<\/p>\n
She called on foreign companies to request police protection when they are working in remote areas.<\/p>\n
The site was described as being at located at the Ivo river, at the boundary between Ebonyi and Enugu states.<\/p>\n
Kidnappings and violence against foreigners in Nigeria is not uncommon.<\/p>\n
