Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Education has revealed that students of the Ahmadu Bello University were almost left studying without electricity over the school\u2019s inability to pay N1 billion electricity bill.<\/p>\n

David Adejoh, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, revealed this on Tuesday during an interaction with a committee of the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n

While highlighting the financial situation in the universities, the permanent secretary said the ministry bailed out the school out of the N1 billion debt to prevent students from learning in a school without electricity.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor example, we had to bail out Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with about N1 billion to pay its electricity bill. The school just resumed academic sessions because they were in darkness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were supposed to build theatres and we told them, \u201c\u2018you cannot build theatre when you are in the dark because you need power to operate,\u201d\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

The committee is reviewing the implementation of the student loan scheme.<\/p>\n

It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu signed the Student Loan legislation in June.<\/p>\n
