Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The House of Representatives has expressed commitment towards ensuring the timely release of the abducted Akwa Ibom Corps members.<\/p>\n

It could be recalled that eight Corps members from Akwa Ibom State were abducted in Gasau, Zamfara State, while travelling to Sokoto for their one year National service.<\/p>\n

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development, Martins Esin in a chat with journalists in Uyo on Tuesday, decried the kidnap and assured of government\u2019s efforts towards their release.<\/p>\n

Esin disclosed that the House of Representatives under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt Hon Tajudeen Abbas was committed to making laws that would guarantee the safety and welfare of Nigerians, including corp members.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cIt is a very traumatising experience for both the youngsters and their families. Government is not also relenting in its efforts at ensuring their timely release. It\u2019s a disturbing development indeed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas feels strongly about issues bordering on the welfare and security of Nigerians.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it will take the enactment of laws or a review of existing ones to strengthen the security architecture of the nation, be rest assured that the Speaker will lead the House through that process in the interest of the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also commended the federal government for reopening the NYSC camp in Borno State after twelve years of closure.<\/p>\n
