Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved a N10,000 transport allowance for workers pending the determination of a new minimum wage.<\/p>\n

Yahaya disclosed this on Sunday in his 63rd Independence Day message.<\/p>\n

The governor, who doubles as the Chairman of the Northern Governors\u2019 Forum, said the state has also provided food palliatives targeting 400,000 beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur administration has already approved N10,000 transport allowance to all workers in the state pending the determination of a new minimum wage. We have also provided palliative assistance under our food distribution programme, which targets 400,000 beneficiaries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

However, the approved figure is a reduced amount compared to the N35,000 approved for Federal Government workers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

Nigeria\u2019s minimum monthly wage approved in 2019 is N30,000; however, as headline inflation soared to 25.80 per cent in August 2023, worsened by fuel subsidy removal, the clamour for a new wage has heightened.<\/p>\n
