Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Civil servants in Jigawa State have accused officials carrying out the Integrated Personnel and Payroll System (IPPS) exercise of receiving bribes from workers.<\/p>\n

Some of the civil servants raised concerns while reacting to the conduct of the exercise in local governments across the state.<\/p>\n

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has ordered the immediate verification and enrollment of civil servants into the Integrated Personnel and Payroll System (IPPS).<\/p>\n

The exercise is part of the present administration\u2019s efforts to improve service delivery.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cthe exercise has nothing to do with retrenchment or witch-hunting anyone but is rather meant to enhance the efficiency of the state\u2019s civil service.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout accurate data, the government will not be able to plan well on how to implement the agenda blueprint and recruit more civil servants to fill the available gaps.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe benefits of the IPPS to the state include efficiency, data accuracy, timely disbursement of salaries, transparency, cost savings, and data security.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Malam Musa, a primary school teacher, accused officials of the exercise of jeopardizing the government\u2019s effort by collecting money from individuals or groups for them to be verified.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have spent two days visiting the designated venue for the verification but only those who have given something (money) are attended to.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was here since morning and my name was on the main list, and they have another list for only those who have given out money.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey used to come out in the morning and close by 4:00 pm, leaving hundreds of workers stranded,\u201d he alleged.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Malam Murtala, a primary school teacher in Ringim Local Government told DAILY POST that he visited the verification venue for three days but was not verified.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey attend to people who have contributed money.<\/p>\n

\u201cI learnt that the staff of Gunduma Health Centre paid them N60,00, Ringim Emirates paid N100,000, College of Islamic and Legal Studies Ringim paid N150,000 and the staff of Ringim General Hospital paid N100,000 for the verification,\u201d he alleged.<\/p>\n

They urged Governor Namadi to checkmate the activities of the officials carrying out the verification exercise.<\/p>\n
