Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigeria Police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has declared that any policeman or security operative who forcefully extorts innocent Nigerians is an armed robber.<\/p>\n

Adejobi stated this in a post on his official X on Saturday, while reacting to a user who took to social media to drag the police for arresting him forcefully.<\/p>\n

Sharing the debit alert of the money collected from him, the user wrote: \u201cSo the policemen came to my estate yesterday evening around 7 PM and packed all the men in the estate. We all slept in the cell last night for no reason. When we were called for \u2018Questioning\u2019 which was more or less a dictation, they said, \u2018You Dey do Yahoo.\u2019 I denied it because I don\u2019t even know how Yahoo works.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext thing was to write a statement saying I\u2019m either a cultist or an armed robber. We all refused writing statements without lawyers present, so we were forced to sleep in the cell. This morning, over 500k was extorted from us in general.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tagging the Force PRO, a user said: \u201cAs PRO of Nigeria Police Force, do something to this dirty stuff your mates always do every day. Police are your friend indeed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adejobi, in his response, wrote: \u201cAny armed policeman or security operative who forcefully extorts an innocent Nigerian is as good as an armed robber.<\/p>\n

\u201cExtortion is never part of any agency\u2019s mandate, either armed or not. We condemn such, and even the IGP has made it clear.\u201d<\/p>\n
