Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has denied an assassination attempt on his life by the military.<\/p>\n

Recall that the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, had alleged that gunmen in military uniform attempted to assassinate the Governor while en route Abuja.<\/p>\n

Fanwo had claimed that the gunmen shot sporadically at Bello\u2019s convoy at about 4pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Information Commissioner noted that Governor Bello was attacked at three different points on the Lokoja-Abuja highway, the last being around Kwali Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/p>\n

However, Bello has countered his Commissioner\u2019s claim.<\/p>\n

Addressing reporters at his residence in Abuja, the Governor said there was a fracas involving his security escorts and other security operatives at a checkpoint on the road.<\/p>\n

He, however, confirmed that the fracas was later resolved.<\/p>\n

According to Bello: \u201cThis afternoon at about 14:00hours, I took off from Lokoja coming to Abuja and the journey was smooth along with the convoy and just about 16:00 hours, my convoy, especially the security, had an encounter with another sister agency and there was a fracas.<\/p>\n

\u201cImmediately, we waded in and it was resolved. From there, we had a smooth journey down to Abuja and ever since I came, I\u2019ve been engaging in all the activities that brought me to Abuja and it\u2019s been very smooth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThereafter, I began to hear on social media about assassination attempt. I want to state categorically very clearly, dear Nigerians, there was no assassination attempt on me Yahaya Bello, the executive governor of Kogi State by the military or by anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
