Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigeria Police Force has described the action of police officers who collect N100 from motorists in some parts of the country as embarrassing.<\/p>\n

The NPF spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, lamented the actions of the officers when he was responding to a question from an X user on why some policemen extort road users.<\/p>\n

According to him, such action is pure corruption and does not portray the force in a good light.<\/p>\n

He attributed the alleged hatred some Nigerians have for the police to the activities of such officers, saying it is a matter of crime.<\/p>\n

He wrote: \u201cIt\u2019s pure corruption. It\u2019s not allowed or acceptable. It\u2019s condemned in its totality. 100 naira or whatever amount is being collected by some policemen (not all of them) on the road is embarrassing and does not portray police in a good light.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, the hatred and bad image of the police are tailored to this and some other isolated misconducts. Those you see on the road collecting dirty money do not represent our standards, values, and vision. It\u2019s a matter of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will soon meet their Waterloo. He also stated that the IGP has set up a committee to tackle unprofessionalism in the force.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IGP detests that and is working assiduously to tackle corruption, misconduct, and unprofessionalism in the police. We will soon reveal the outcomes of IGP\u2019s monitoring team\u2019s operations across the country. We have recorded successes in that regard, and it\u2019s a continuous exercise.\u201d<\/p>\n
