Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>KAA Gent defender Jordan Torunarigha has revealed why he decided to reject the chance to play for the Super Eagles under former head coach Gernot Rohr.<\/p>\n

Torunarigha turned down overtures from Rohr ahead of Nigeria\u2019s participation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old was born in Chemnitz, Germany, to Nigerian parents.<\/p>\n

The centre-back instead committed his future to the then-world champions.<\/p>\n

Torunarigha then went on to play for Germany at the youth level before later switching allegiance to Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The son of the former Nigeria international, Ojokojo earned his first call-up for the Super Eagles 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Sao Tome and Principe in October.<\/p>\n

The former Hertha Berlin star then made his debut for the three-time African champions in a friendly against Mozambique this month.<\/p>\n

Torunarigha said it was difficult for him to accept the Super Eagles then because he had never been to Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was difficult for me because my parents are from Nigeria, but I have never been to Nigeria. I don\u2019t know how the people are; I don\u2019t know what the country looks like, and for me, it\u2019s a little bit difficult,\u201d he told Soccernet.<\/p>\n

He will be looking to make Nigeria\u2019s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n
