Rayon, APR face difficult test in Rubavu

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Title rivals Rayon Sports and APR have a daunting task ahead of their trip to Rubavu as they face crucial tests against Etincelles FC and Rutsiro FC respectively.

APR will face Rutsiro on Saturday afternoon at Umuganda Stadium while Rayon battle Etincelles at the same venue on Sunday.

Currently, only 1 point separates the two teams in what seems to be a two-horse race to the Rwanda Premier League title. Rayon have 50 points, followed by APR who have 49.

APR faltered last weekend against Etincelles as they allowed Innocent Seninga’s side to crawl from 2-0 down to tie the game 2-2.

This is a sharp contrast to what their opponents, Rutsiro FC, did when they pulled the nuts out of the blazing fire, coming from 2-0 down to beat relegation-threatened Bugesera FC 4-2 in Rubavu.

APR might have all the big names fit and ready for Saturday’s clash but they won’t find it easy against Musa Gatera’s Rutsiro. Under the veteran tactician, Rutsiro FC have shown their pedigree and they have been a delight to watch this season. The newly promoted side currently sits 4th on the table with 37 points.

APR may be sweating over their two first choices centre backs. Yunusu Nshimiyimana was subbed off in the 28th minute in the 2-2 draw and Etincelles last Sunday while Clement Niyigena also suffered a knock but he was made to play till fulltime as Darko Novic had already made his substitutions.

For Rayon Sports, they might have learnt their lessons after reclaiming the top spot. Their last visit to Umuganda Stadium didn’t end well as they were held to a 2-2 with Marines FC.

The Blues conceded two cheap and avoidable goals and the result got Brazilian coach Robertinho suspended for two months which will run till the end of the season.

Etincelles coach Innocent Seninga, arguably the best coach of the second round of the campaign, has already sounded a warning to the league leaders as he pushes to guarantee a topflight spot for his team next season.

“We have to take all games seriously; we are not safe yet. We must try and win all our games. We will prepare adequately for Rayon Sports.” Seninga said.

The two games in Rubavu this weekend will go a long way in determining the league winners. A slip up for either side could blow their title hopes with just 5 games to end the season.
