Ferwafa approves new commissions in major administration overhaul

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Extraordinary General Assembly of the Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) has approved major changes in their governance, with the number of commissions being reduced.

This Extraordinary General Assembly of FERWAFA met on Saturday, May 3, 2025, also approved that the FERWAFA President will veto the selection of a new Executive Committee supporting him throughout his term in office.

FERWAFA Commissioner in charge of Legal Affairs and Good Governance, Me. Claudine Gasarabwe, explained to the members of the General Assembly that the changes are part of the revised administrative statute suggested by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and World Football governing body (FIFA).

Gasarabwe said, “This is to put order the revised statute, as we have to keep same standards required by CAF and FIFA legal framework.”

According to the revised statute, the Committee in charge of promoting activities and seeking donations was removed and transferred to the Finance Committee, the National Teams Committee was transferred to the Technical Committee, while the Security Committee was placed to the Competition Promotion Committee.

Other changes made in Ferwafa administration include the Commission for Women’s Football Development which was moved to member of the FERWAFA Executive Committee, while the Medical Commission will be maintained.

The revised statute will now see the number of commissions reduce to 10 down from the initial 13.

Gasarabwe, said that therevised administrative structure was aimed at reduce the money they were spending during meetings held by members of each of the commissions.

“We have a problem with the resources that go into the functioning of the Commissions in FERWAFA. That is why we have merged some of them,” she explained.

The issues related to the promotion of beach and indoor soccer [Futsal and Beach Soccer] were not brought back to the commission, but will be regular competitions that can be organized by FERWAFA.

The FERWAFA General Assembly also agreed that elected FA president will have autonomy in naming the list of people in the executive committee that he or she wishes to work with.

It was announced that the elections for the new Executive Committee will be held at the next General Assembly with date yet to be confirmed. The current committee, led by Alphonse Munyantwali, will end its term in June.
