Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR defeated Amagaju FC 3-1 on Saturday at Kigali Pele Stadium to climb back to the top of the league table.

Goals from striker Djibril Ouatarra, Denis Omedi and substitute Frodouard Mugiraneza gave the army side 3 maximum points which saw them go two points ahead of title rivals Rayon Sports who will Police FC on Sunday.

After the early exchanges, APR launched a swift counterattack with Bosco Ruboneka switching to the right. The midfielder found Ouatarra with a pinpoint cross and the Burkinabe soared high to head the ball into the net to make it 1-0 in the 12th minute.

APR were so swift with their build up as they could easily get into Amagaju’s half. Ouatarra looked dangerous whenever he switched to the middle to create enough spaces for the likes of Denis Omedi and Gilbert Mugisha to explore.

After half time, Darko Novic’s side again built most of their attacks from the flanks. A ball from midfield found Mugisha on the left side who tried to send in a cross but Hadji Bizimana blocked his effort with his hand and the referees whistled for a penalty.

Goalkeeper Clement Twagirumukiza followed Omedi’s powerful shot from the spot but he could not save it as APR went 2-0 up in the 62nd minute.

Amagaju attacker Edouard Ndayishimiye who scored the winner against the same side in the first leg pulled one back for the visitors in the 85th minute to make it 2-1 but APR restored their two-goal lead in the 94th minute after Mugiraneza came from the bench to score the third goal that gave Novic’s side security.
