Mbesutunguwe Celebrates Police League Title Victory

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Handball star Samuel Mbesutunguwe has expressed delight after helping Police Handball Club clinch the 2024/2025 National Handball League title, following a dominant performance against rivals APR Handball Club in the playoffs.

Police sealed the championship on Saturday, June 14, after winning three consecutive games against APR.

“This is probably one of the best performances we have had this season. We are happy and want to build on it for the next regional tournaments and continental championship,” Mbesutubguwe said.

In the final game, Emmanuel Kubwimana was the top scorer with 12 goals, while Mbesutunguwe played a key role in the first two games as he scored 12 and 10 goals in game one and two respectively.

The championship marks Police HC’s 10th league title since joining the competition in 2004. Their last title came in 2021.

Police had narrowly won Game 1 (26–25) before taking Game 2 (36–30), ultimately sweeping the best-of-three series.

They remain the most successful club in Rwandan handball history, followed by former KIE with five titles, and APR HC and Gicumbi HT, who each have three.
