Amavubi and Cranes Legends Face Off in Friendly Match

Rwanda’s Amavubi legends will face Ugandan legends’ team, Flair 50 FC, in friendly showdown which will take place at Pele Stadium on June 21, 2025 kickoff at 10:00.

The match will be hosted by the by Former Amavubi Players Association (FAPA).

According to a statement released by FAPA on Tuesday, June 27, the match will bring together celebrated former players from both countries with the aim of celebrating sportsmanship and promoting friendship and brotherhood between Rwanda and Uganda through football.

“It is more than just a game. We are honored to host our Ugandan brothers for what promises to be a memorable and meaningful event. Football has always had the power to bridge divides and foster lasting connections and this match is a testament to that spirit,” said FAPA President Eric Eugene Murangwa.

The last time the two countries’ legends teams met in a friendly match was in 2016 when ex-Amavubi stars thrashed their Ugandan counterparts 5-3. The Rwandan side was comprised of mainly players who helped the nation to qualify for the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.

The match was staged to pay tribute to late former Rwanda internationals Jean Marie Ntagwabira and Patrick Mutesa Mafisango.

After the match, the players provided support to Ntagwabira and Mafisango’s families as a sign of solidarity and recognition for their contribution to the development of football in Rwanda.
